International Projects

In addition to various grants and projects, the Kiwanis Children’s Fund (formerly the Kiwanis International Foundation) in the last few decades has adopted two major projects in cooperation with other U.S. and international organizations, other national governments, and private entities to have a major impact on two world-wide health issues. The Kiwanis Club of LSU has assisted in funding these efforts. More information about these projects is available below and on the Kiwanis International website (here).

eliMiNaTe (Maternal and Neo-natal Tetanus) – the Kiwanis club of LSU raised and donated $1,250 annually for several years toward Kiwanis International goal of $115 million by 2015 to combat MNT around the world and was recognized as a “model club.”

IDD (Iodine Deficiency Disorder) – the Kiwanis club of LSU made donations to earlier Kiwanis International effort that raised more than $100 million and has been successful in reducing by 75% the worldwide incidence of this disorder that is the cause of throat goiters in adults and the greatest preventable cause of mental retardation in children.  Funds were used to work with international agencies and national governments to establsih facilities and programs to manufacture, distribute, and promote the use of iodized salt by all citizens.
