Current Projects

  • LSU Fallfest – Working as volunteers to package and distribute hamburgers and sausages to more than 10,000 people and LSU’s annual fall celebration to welcome new and returning students including food, games, and exhibits by campus departments and organizations.  Until the cooking was taken off-site by the food service contractor, our club arranged and managed two of the four large outdoor grills on which the hamburgers and sausages were cooked on-site.  
  • LSU International Student Welcome – Providing/serving deserts (King Cakes) at LSU Int’l Cultural Center’s welcome parties at start of Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Homeless Supplies – Providing toiletries and collecting shirts (in cooperation with Early Risers Kiwanis Club) to distribute to homeless people.
  • Baton Rouge Mom Network – Joining with other local Kiwanis clubs to provide needed items for children (birth to age 5) of network clients.  We gave out school supplies, while other clubs provided diapers, wipes, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, etc.
  • Flag Day at LA Capitol – Attending memorial ceremony and helping to plant hundreds of flags in front of state capitol on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
  • Shoe Collection – Collecting shoes (with other local Kiwanis clubs) to ship to third-world countries to support small entrepreneurs, provide low-cost shoes, and raise funds for Kiwanis eliMiNaTe project.
  • Reading programs – Collecting and donating books to elementary schools, head-start centers, a homeless drop-in center, and an anti-violence shelter. Also reading to groups and letting each child select a book for his/her own.
  • Inter-Civic Council of Greater Baton Rouge – Participating with other local nonprofit, service, and civic organizations in the federation that selects the annual winner of Baton Rouge’s most prestigious community recognition, the Golden Deeds Award, and organizing a banquet for 350-450 people to celebrate current and past winners.
  • Kiwanis International Conventions and District Conferences – Attending training seminars, exchanging project ideas, sharing fellowship, and participating in international and district governance.

Past Projects

  • Prepared registration packets for Louisiana Special Olympics annual statewide indoor games and distributed them to coaches and Area Directors until games downsized.
  • Assembled student lunch backpacks at Baton Rouge Food Bank for selected low income school children to have food for weekends.
  • Provided “Bowling for Babies” team to participate in annual bowling tournament sponsored by South Baton Rouge Kiwanis Club to raise funds for Kiwanis International eliMiNaTe project.
  • Collected Shoes (with other Divisions 8E & 8W clubs) to ship to third-world countries to support small entrepreneurs, provide low-cost shoes, and raise funds for Kiwanis eliMiNaTe project.
  • Pressure-washed porches/sidewalks at LSU Child Care Center.
  • Helped with grave-yard cleanup at poorly kept local cemetery
  • Helped set-up/take-down/ushering at Divisions 8E/8W Kiwanis Safety Fair at Cortana Mall.
  • Sponsored Key Clubs at McKinley High School and Christian Life Academy
  • Assisted with parent/student dinners at University Terrace Elementary School.
  • Built patio deck at University Terrace Elementary School.
  • Built basketball goal at Glory House.
