Cajun Jambalaya Lunch

Annually since 1987 (except 2020 & 2021 because of Covid), we have been cooking, assembling, and serving an eat-in or carry-out jambalaya lunch at the Nelson Memorial Building on the southeast corner of the LSU campus. Usually in March or April, we prepare ingredients on a Wednesday evening, cook early on Thursday morning, assemble meals in Styrofoam containers, and then serve from 11 am to 1 pm. Besides jambalaya, each meal includes salad or slaw, roll, dessert, and packaged utensil set. Water, Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprint are available for people who eat on site. In 2023, we substituted home-made pralines instead of a store-bought dessert.

In addition to individuals, we sell group orders to campus and community offices, businesses, and organizations. We do some group deliveries, but most groups orders are picked up by someone from that group. The building has a side room that can accommodate a group with a meeting or speaker.

Art Raffle

Annually since 2011 (except 2020 because of Covid), we have conducting a raffle of art items. Initially, there was a single prize of a “blue dog” in an LSU football jersey by George Rodrigue. One year was a print of a jazz band of blue dogs by Rodrigue. More recently, we felt that “blue dog” prints had lost some of their attraction and offered multiple prizes including framed and signed originals and prints, decorative metalwork items, limited edition books, and other items.
