Financial Support

The Kiwanis Club of LSU furnishes financial support in three ways. One is monetary donations to charitable causes. A second is purchasing items that we give to schools or other entities. The third is purchasing supplies for projects that we build or coordinate.

Current Projects

  • LSU Scholarships ($1,000 scholarship each year to dependent of LSU faculty or staff.
  • Kiwanis Family House of Louisiana (effort to develop temporary affordable residence for non-local families of children undergoing treatment in Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital and Baton Rouge General Hospital burn unit).
  • Gardere Initiative (provides mentoring, tutoring, and activities for children/youth in densely populated low income area in southeast Baton Rouge).
  • LSU International Cultural Center (purchase/serve King Cakes for Int’l Student Welcome Parties at beginning of Fall and Spring semesters).
  • Kiwanis Children’s Fund (formerly Kiwanis International Foundation) (supports world-wide projects and provides grants to local clubs for major community projects).
  • Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee Kiwanis District Foundation (provides grants to local clubs for special community projects).
  • Wreaths Across America (purchase/place wreaths on veterans graves in National Cemeteries before Christmas holidays).

Past Projects

  • Donated defibrilator to Christian Life Academy.
  • Donated bicycle rack to Bernard Terrace Elementary School.
  • Built patio deck at University Terrace Elementary School.
  • Funded “Bowling for Babies” team in annual fundraising bowling tournament sponsored by South Baton Rouge Kiwanis Club and also furnished basket of LSU-related goods for Silent Auction.
  • International Hospitality Foundation (resource center for international students until disbanded).
  • Baton Rouge Youth Oasis/Diversity House (adolescent help center and shelter).
  • Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank (feeding the hungry by providing food and educational outreach).
  • Boy Scouts (Istrouma Area Council).
  • Louisiana Special Olympics (both local Capital Area and statewide organization).
  • Louisiana 4-H Foundation (supports youth activities, contests, camps, etc.)
  • Key Clubs at McKinley High School and Christian Life Academy
  • Alliance Safety Council (provides training and other services and resources for businesses).
  • Nepalese Relief Fund (via LSU Nepalese Student Organization to provide help after earthquake).
